Music can make or break my focus.

I’ve got a Spotify playlist that seems to hit the sweet spot when I need to get my head down, work through a long to-do list, or be creative. It’s been built up over time and has become my go-to soundtrack.

I’d love to know what everyone else listens to when they’re working. As the guy on the McDonalds Advert says. “Expend your pallet”

    • Nice, Simon. I’m a bit of a work playlist party pooper I’m afraid! I can’t concentrate when there’s music going on, even if it’s classical music 😕

      • Thanks Simon I’ll have a listen ! I cant work to anything that has much of a recognisable tune or lyrics but I like to use Brainwaves and trance music or what Alexa calls yoga music to keep me focused.

Energy is contagious... but so is silence

I often think people assume that if you’re energetic, positive and always full of ideas, then it must come naturally.

The truth is, creating energy is hard work.

Over the past few weeks I’ve realised that there’s a huge difference between being busy and building momentum. You can spend every hour solving problems, organising events, meeting…

        • I agree with you Simon, leading a successful group is about creating that energy that moves everything forward. But it will obviously ebb and flow, and sometimes there will be sticking points. I think a good leader definitely creates and environment where others are confident that they can bring their own energy. There’s also a skill in…

        • I always say that I am the “frame”, no one goes to see the frame around the Mona Lisa, but the wrong frame you’d absolutely notice! My job is to give enough space so that others can shine and sparkle and be awesome!

        A great breakfast!

I enjoyed a great breakfast this morning at Mid Devon Network at the Hartnoll Hotel, Tiverton, but it’s not about the breakfast, it’s about the contacts and the interactions. MDN is always a lively meeting and we enjoyed a superb presentation this morning by Michael Blake of Bespoke Installations. If you want to boost your home…

Here’s a random assortment of learnings, thoughts and insights into how we took an idea, and turned it into a whole new business venture, using a podcast – The Business Oddcast – as a launch pad. It wasn’t all planned, and we’ve met some incredible people along the way and the belief in our work has grown into something so much…

      • Metrics that matter

Every business has a dashboard with numbers on it. Most of those numbers aren’t going to change what you do tomorrow.

LinkedIn impressions doubled this week. Are you doing anything different tomorrow? Probably not.

Qualified enquiries dropped 40%. Are you doing anything different tomorrow? Probably yes.

        Look at your…

          • KHI FTW! Love that idea – in fact the whole idea of putting humans at the centre of the business is the change that is needed.
Would change what I do –

            1) Serious illness – a change in my overall health metrics would be an instant change.
            2) Family issue – family first, everything is an also ran.
            3) 30 day debt rising above £500

            Anything…
