Previous post update - bad review

A week ago I posted about a bad review that turned into one of the biggest opportunities of the year.

      Quick update.

The person who left that comment is now a client. First invoice paid. In his words, not mine, what we’re building “has the potential to become a six-figure contract over the next twelve months.”

Not bad for something that started as a complaint.

Since then he’s introduced three other people who want the same for their brands. His build comes first, then we’ll see where those conversations go. He’s also said that once everything is live, he’ll recommend us to his audience of nearly two million and tell them we know what we’re doing.

All from one negative comment that could very easily have turned into an argument.

I’ve always believed that if you deal with a problem properly, without getting defensive, and actually listen to what someone is telling you, it can lead somewhere completely different. Some of the best work I’ve won started as something I didn’t want to deal with.

There’s a second lesson here, and it’s about knowing your worth.

If you can genuinely help someone grow their business, fix what isn’t working, or take them to the next level, that has real value. Too many of us underprice it. Underpricing is one of the most expensive habits in business. Charge too little and, rightly or wrongly, people assume the value is lower too.

The right clients aren’t looking for the cheapest option. They’re looking for someone they trust to get it done.

Funny what can grow out of a bit of manure. 💩🌹
