UK Budget 2026: What You Need to Know
Today, Chancellor John Healey delivered the Autumn Budget, outlining a range of measures aimed at easing the cost of living, supporting businesses and encouraging economic growth. Here are some of the key announcements that could affect you, your business and your finances.
Business Rates
The threshold for small business rates relief in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors is increasing from £12,000 to £18,000. This could mean lower costs for eligible businesses, helping ease pressure on the high street.
National Minimum Wage
Minimum wage rates are set to increase by 3.9%, which could affect payroll costs for employers. Businesses should review their budgets and ensure payroll systems are updated when the new rates take effect.
Energy Bills
Measures include a £100 energy payment for around 20 million households in council tax bands A–D, alongside changes to energy-related charges intended to help reduce household bills.
Savings and ISAs
The annual cash ISA allowance will remain at £20,000, rather than being reduced to £12,000 as previously planned. However, from April 2027, tax rates on savings and property income will increase by two percentage points, making it important to review your personal tax position.
Fuel Duty
The planned January fuel duty increase has been cancelled, extending the freeze and providing some relief for motorists and businesses that rely on vehicles.
