• Why lead magnets are the most underrated marketing tool for SMBs

A lead magnet is something you give away free, useful enough that a stranger will hand over their email address for it. A checklist, a calculator, a short guide, a free audit. They get help they can use whether they ever buy from you or not. You get permission to keep talking to them.

I’ve used a few in my own business, from surveys to website audits, and one thing I learned early doors is the importance of using the right one for my particular audience.

The difference between B2C and B2B is straightforward. A consumer spends their own money, decides on their own, and can act immediately. A business buyer spends someone else’s money, may need two or three others to sign off, and could take a while to decide.

For B2C a lead magnet might be a discount code, a free sample, a printable planner, a quiz that tells them which product suits them, or a two minute video that fixes an everyday annoyance.

In B2B it’s more likely to be a case study, a template, an industry benchmark, a calculator, a toolkit for a specific job. And because the decision happens in a room you’re not in and should make the person who found it look credible when they share it.

What lead magnets are you using in your business, and are they earning their keep?
