Hi everyone,
Now that the member’s area is bedding in, I thought I might start using it as a member now.
I was asked an interesting question the other day, which I thought I would ask you lot on here.
If you were able to speak to the 12-year-old you, what would your younger self think of all the achievements you’ve made up to the present day?
I’m pretty sure that the 12-year-old me would be amazed at the career I’ve had and the people I have met, but perhaps not surprised to know that I work in the creative industries. My younger self was obsessed with comic book art and animation. I didn’t quite go down that niche of creativity, but to still be in the creative industry as a creative director & interaction designer, …well, I think my younger self would be pleased no end.

Sounds like a good achievement! Perhaps high chance perhaps that a a design related career beckoned for me but I think like you probably would have been more along the art side. Would have been gutted to not have played professional football. There’s still time I guess.

My younger self would have said shit I thought you’d be a famous writer or a theatre director, what happened ?! But lovely you’ve got the 3 kids you wanted. And financial independence looks pretty cool. You’ve still got time to write the blockbuster

12 year old me had visions of being a racing driver or at least working in motorsport.
These dreams were dashed when I went to uni to study automotive engineering and within a year, found I was out of my depth – maths was never my strong point. When I went through school and at the end, I was always into creative subjects but there was not much education around what career options there were for creatives – or at least I wasn’t really aware.
It wasnt till I was then forced to rethink what I am going to do as a career path I found my true path with graphic design and branding.
Somehow it’s not as glamorous than flying all over the world and racing cars but I have had an exciting ride.
I tell my 12 yr old daughter that I now ‘colour in’ for a living which she thinks is pretty cool that you can be paid for doing that and gets excited when she sees something Ive produced on a shop frontage/billboard/magazine etc.

@robfryer-brandstorm my mate worked for McClaren, now works for Brabham. He says he’s just a “stores person” but it is still cooler than cool to be part of a high performance car co!

@stu yeah that does sound pretty cool saying I work for Mclaren/Brabham.
