Just done the Alton 10 road race – sub 2 hours, the time doesn’t matter. What I am taking from this is I can run a ten mile road race without a considered training plan. Having run a half marathon earlier this year, I’d rather been beset by injury and work commitments. Nice to know that the fitness hasn’t slipped too far!
So, any runners on here? Any recommendations for races? The Alton 10 is challenging road race through the hills and countryside of Alton and it’s environs. Recommend it for the views alone! Well organised and great value!

Hi Stuart – nice one! would love to do that one. I haven’t really done a race for ages but keep meaning to try a park run. Broxhead common is a nice one near me, bit hilly. Thought could do with any tips on avoid calf muscle stiffening up half way though…bit of a mystery, doing all the warm up I can think of.

@ivan definitely come to Hogmoor parkrun – look forward to seeing you there soon!!

@ivan I liove running over on Broxhead, and then on to the “slab” and through to Kingsley. Lovely runs round here. I’m no PT or physio, but I did deep calf raises on my first stair to strengthen my calves, then do a good warm up and stretch. Finally rollering with a small diameter roller. Good luck, see you on the trails! (POS, Hogmoor park run is very friendly and welcmoing, come along, you don’t have to run the whole way, in fact you can walk the entire thing!)

@stu thanks for the tip…who would have thought Bizhub would be the place I learnt there is such a thing as rolling your calf muscles!

Well done Stu! I run an occasional gentle 5 k around Farnham park. couple of big hills, it’s enough for me. Mostly I hike. Im very impressed with your 10 k!

Well done Stu – you smashed it – unlike me who let the heat and hills get to me – all the wheels fell off and I was a whole 15 mins slower than last year lol.
