• FREE TOOLS ALERT
Hi Everyone. Yesterdays Branding Open Session was on ‘Visual Identity – making strategy visible’

It was a great session, we talked about how to :

▶️ Use strategy to define the identity with intent and purpose
▶️ How to build consistency – because confused minds don’t buy
▶️ The power of colour and typography and choosing the right combination based on how you want to be perceived.
▶️ And some tips and tools to level up your brand identity FOR FREE.

Attendees found the list of free tools really useful. so following on from @stu and his great list of useful apps the other day, here is a list of the the free tools I shared in the session if you’re serious about bossing your brand’s visual identity and want to stop winging it.

Coolers – A great site for picking brand colours. Scroll through pre selected palettes, lock-in your favourites and get colour codes. You can also test for visual accessibility and colour blindness etc.

Adobe Color – A bit like Coolers but uses colour wheels to select colour palettes. You can also search for palettes by the mood or emotion you wish to convey.

Google Fonts – This is the go-to no fuss library of fonts that are free to use, easy to filter by style or mood etc, free to download and easy to embed into websites. Bonus hidden feature – it also has an icon set creator too – (search the left hand menu)

Unsplash & Pexels – Free stock image sites. No more illegal copy and pasting low res images from Google (you know who you are). Search and download hi res stock images. They also offer a low cost subscription for better quality and wider selection of images.

Canva – everyones favourite design tool but it can do so much more than create social graphic templates and slide decks. Create your full brand kit and guidelines, image editing/recolouring/background removal, branded product mockups – it has everything you need to boss your visual identity and keep things consistent. (NB-may need the paid pro version for some of these features but so worth it)

ClipDrop – OK so I nicked this from Stu’s list but been having a play recently and is a very good free Ai based image editor. Upload those generic stock images and give the some brand love with colour and lighting filters, remove backgrounds etc.

FreePik & Smash Icons – search and download icon sets and graphics by style, colour and sector.

ChatGPT – You probably already know ChatGPT is a game changer for your business but a quick ‘Ai-dentity’ power move is to take your excel charts, meeting notes, generic graphs etc and upload to chatGPT and get it to recreate into an eye catching diagram or infographic in your brand style.

I have put some more information on these in a post today too – go check it out.
