Yeah, I have set the limit to 1mb which should be more than big enough. iPhone and other cameras take high-resolution images, though it might appear to be small the file size will be bigger.
If you can help it, you really need to upload images to the web at 0.2mb. There are services which will help you to reduce the file size.
The limit is in place to prevent the hosting space from filling up too quickly. You can imagine that if everyone uploaded images over 1 MB every day, the hosting space would fill up quickly and incur higher hosting fees. Of course, the more people who sign-up, the more potential there is for them to upload images and the faster the hosting will get filled up. At the moment, the issue, isn’t a big one, but it is something we’ll need to address in the medium term.
The image size limit has to stay, I’m afraid, to ensure that users can’t unknowingly upload files which are too big.
I’d recommend https://express.adobe.com/ for image editing. It’s free and GDPR compliant. I took an image from 2.3MB to 738kb (attached)
