What to Do Next: Improving Clarity, Strategy & Focus
So you’ve got a low score here? This isn’t a sign that you don’t know what you’re doing — it’s usually a sign that you’ve been doing a lot without enough space to step back and decide what actually matters now.
For established business owners, lack of clarity rarely comes from ignorance. It comes from growth, ideas, pressure, and responsibility piling up faster than decisions are being properly made. Over time, strategy ends up living in your head instead of guiding the business day to day.
What this score usually means – you may recognise some of this:
- You’re busy, but Progress is slow
- Decisions take longer than they should
- You keep revisiting the same questions
- The business works, but it isn't growing
- You’re never quite sure if you are focusing on the right thing
This is a leadership signal, not a capability gap.
What to focus on first
Before changing anything in the business, I’d focus on clarity of direction.
Not a big strategic plan. Not a rebrand. Just answering three questions honestly:
- What am I actually trying to build here?
- What does this business need to give me over the next 12–24 months?
- What am I tolerating that’s draining energy or focus?
One practical thing to do this week
Block out one uninterrupted hour. No laptop. No notifications.
On one page, write:
- The core problem your business exists to solve
- Who it is solving the problem for
- Why people will pay for the solution
- How the business will make money
- What “success” looks like in one year’s time
A mindset shift that helps
Clarity isn’t something you find.
It’s something you take responsibility for.
As the founder, your job isn’t just to work in the business — it’s to create direction that others (including future you) can follow. That means making decisions, not keeping options open indefinitely.
Why accountability matters here
Strategic clarity fades quickly when it lives only in your head. It needs to bea rticujlated and you will need to be held to account for sticking to the path. There are always distractions and reasons to wander.
Without accountability:
- Old habits creep back in
- Urgent tasks replace important ones
- Decisions quietly get deferred
Clarity sticks when someone else helps you hold it steady.
The bottom line:
Take the time to set a direction you trust — and find the support that keeps you on track.
