• How's Your Work / Life Balance?

What helps you keep your work/life balance in check?

What do you do to ground yourself after a brilliant day… or a completely shit one? How do you celebrate the wins or vent the frustrations?

For me, it’s Elvis — my 10-year-old greyhound. He’s the most loving distraction you could ask for and, honestly, a very, very spoilt boy.

And then there’s my wife, Beccy, who genuinely is my perfect partner in life. In the words of MAFS Australia, she’s my “ride or die” — always has my back, always keeps me grounded, and always reminds me what actually matters.

I’ve also found a huge amount of peace in our garden. We’ve had so many unexpected surprises appear, and every single day there’s something new growing or changing. There’s something really grounding about watching things develop naturally, in their own time. It’s a good reminder that growth doesn’t always need forcing — sometimes the best things happen when you simply nurture them and let them grow.

But @stu taught me really important stuff like ‘buffer days’ to recover after busy days, and that rest is not a reward. But preperation for the work to come. When you think of rest as integral, rather than a ‘nice to have’ it’s a real game changer! I love that you have a dog called Elvis! Your wife sounds magnificent too!

        • @Hannah yes, your podcast is teaching me lots of things and I am so grateful to you both.

        • @Hannah So very true 💚

Why is it that we struggle so much with the idea that rest is actually crucial to our wellbeing? There’s so much pressure to constantly be “on” and productive, but it’s just not sustainable, or healthy.

Rest shouldn’t feel earned. It’s essential. And I think we’d all benefit from being a little kinder to ourselves.

          • @Hannah that is important stuff! I got a whoop monitor thing a couple of years ago and thats when I started to understand rest as a thing that we actually need as opposed to a rare luxury / reward . Buffer days sound like a fab idea.

          • My Frenchie, Coco, helps keep me in the real world. I love our lunchtime walks (even, grudgingly, when the weather is awful)!

            • For me, it’s my two very spoilt cats 😂 One is a complete princess about absolutely everything, and the other is pure chaos and craziness… but highly entertaining!

Nature is definitely my go-to though. I can spend hours in the garden just watching the bees and feeling completely fascinated by their behaviour. It brings me back to a place of calm and clarity every time.

There’s something really grounding about slowing down and reconnecting with nature.

              • Animals are so stress relieving. Except for the 3am hairball. And random “singing” in the night. THEY’RE DE-LIGHT-FUL… 🙂
